The human performance problem is that staff members do not know how to create customized reports in the Blumen Database, which is a software program used to track student progress. This problem is occurring because of lack of knowledge and unfamiliarity with the program. Staff members need to know how to save filter and lists in my absence or if they want something done quickly themselves.
Addressing the Problem
The diagram is a good choice for instructing staff because the task is a step-by-step task done in a linear fashion. There are just a few steps. Because the job aid is on paper, it can be referred to at anytime without having to look it up on the computer.
I used the windows 7 screen capture program and Adobe Photoshop to create the diagram.
Process/Techniques
To complete the job aid, I used and named layers for easy design manipulation. I used contrasting colors and lighting to highlight the steps. I used feathering to help the windows blend in with the background. I used text with little font variation to guide users. I used layer effects on the title and numbers to make them stand out more so that the user sees that there are only three main steps on the three windows. I used color-coded lines to point to the different aspects of the steps. These lines draw attention from the left side of the screen to the right side, which is often not as prominent.
